Ashley isn't very open about her parents, however she has credited her grandfather for being the person who inspired her to work to get fit. Her grandfather was a bodybuilder who had a lot of fun when was in his 30s and 40s. Ashley started swimming when she was just of four and continued this for over 10 years. It is believed that Ashley was a participant in various competitions. But, she was not put in the time because she was not willing to stick to strict diet rules so her body could perform at its best. While she competed in competitions, she would receive offers of shoots. However, she wasn't looking to join her two careers. When she decided to stop playing and resigned from the sport, she started working as a fitness-model.
